I noticed that I started to see a handful of the same books over and over again. There was acclaim everywhere for one that sticks out in my mind. At first I thought it may be an interesting read and perhaps worth checking out. Then I kept seeing images of the cover everywhere I went and found it a bit annoying. I didn't realize how irritated I was until I received a gift guide in the mail from Chapters Indigo. If you scroll over to the third page, Heather's Picks, and look at the bottom you'll see the book I am talking about. While I have seen quite a bit of most of the books on the page, the one that I've seen to most of and that I want to see no more of is The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern. Seriously, I feel like I'm going to go insane if I see this cover one more time or hear its praises. At this point, I DON'T CARE!!! It may be a wonderful read, but the promotion went beyond the interest stage to the downright annoying stage for me.But I suspect while publishers may lose a potential reader here and there, their gains by such promotion probably outweighs the losses.
Does anyone else feel this way? (Please someone tell me that I'm not the only one over-sensitive about this!!!)

Heh! Nope you are not the only one. For the exact same reason i'm not in mood to continue with Lauren Kate's FALLEN series.
And while, i would be on of the first one to buy series like TMI, now i don't even care when or if i will buy it at all.
That's a reason i tend to being bored to even review a popular book i liked, read the reviews about it or anything regards it. And that's why i try to promote older and more unknown books at my blog too. I don't say i don't have some populars too.
But you know, after some point of seeing a book around too much you are like "meehhh".
And you are right, publishers may lose 100 readers but with a promotion like that will gain thousands and won't even care. I'm more concerned on the fact, that other books that deserve the attention way more are not known :(
I suppose I do feel the same way about 'The Night Circus'...it was even featured in Chatelaine magazine this month. I may eventually read 'The Night Circus' but I will not be featuring it on my blog -- why would anyone be interested in reading ANOTHER review of this book when its literally everywhere?
I haven't read 'The Night Circus' so I can't really judge whether or not it deserves all the attention its getting. But I do agree that its a little too over-exposed.

I found your post interesting. I have seen The Night Circus on quite a few blogs, but so far it hasn't bothered me. Some of the reviews are so different and I enjoy hearing what each reader thought. I also notice that the same books are reviewed- but unless it is a book I am not interested in- I am not bothered by it. I can understand how it can be too much though- and I do love reading reviews of less popular books as well.
Thanks for sharing!
